Now in her 25th year of osteopathic practice, Sue Broadbent brings her comprehensive, career-long experience and knowledge to Brunswick Heads Osteopathy. Sue was introduced to the wonderful benefits of osteopathic treatment following a whiplash injury in her 20s, suffering significant pain and disability and many weeks of ineffective treatment. A friend suggested osteopathy, and in that first session Sue experienced enormous relief from pain, producing a “light-bulb” moment of clarity as to her future career.

Sue is a 1992 graduate of the British College of Osteopathic Medicine in London (previously British College of Naturopathy and Osteopathy).  Sue practiced on the English South Coast before relocating to Australia in 2000, practising in Brunswick Heads, Byron Bay and Lismore.  In 2010 Sue opened the current premises in Mullumbimbi Street Brunswick Heads and expanded her practice services with reception staff, massage practitioners and Associate Osteopaths, allowing the clinic to operate 6 days per week.

In 2011 and 2012 Sue was invited to join the professional staff at Southern Cross University’s Osteopathic Student Clinic as a Clinical Supervisor. She recommenced this role in Nov 2016. In addition 3rd, 4th and 5th Year Osteopathic students observe Sue in her clinical practice throughout the year as an adjunct to their clinical learning.

Sue employs a wide variety of osteopathic techniques including massage and myofascial release, trigger point therapy including dry needling, positional release and counter-strain, muscle energy technique, joint articulation, mobilisation, spinal manipulation and kinesiotaping. Sue is experienced in treating patients throughout pregnancy, and all ages from 8 to eighties.

Sue is available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

As an osteopath, Toby brings a diversity of knowledge and experience of the movement sciences & arts.

His interest in the osteopathy field began with training at Australia’s premier dance institution, the VCA (Victorian College of the Arts), where Toby attained a Bachelor of Dance and worked as a professional dancer, and certified clinical Pilates instructor. Toby graduated as an Osteopath in 2009 at RMIT Melbourne, with Bachelor of Applied Science and Masters in Osteopathy. More recently, Toby has undertaken intensive training with Kungfu & Qigong Master Liu Deming. Toby maintains his personal training and instructs these arts, a firm believer in ‘practicing what he preaches’. Toby endeavours to integrate all of this into his osteopathic practice.

As an osteopath, Toby aspires to develop a practice that uses the whole variety of osteopathic techniques, the osteopathic “toolbag”, according to the each patient’s presentation and preferences.

Toby is available on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays.

Karen Bryant is a registered Osteopath who graduated with a Bachelor of Clinical Sciences and a Masters of Osteopathic Medicine from Southern Cross University in 2016. Karen is a former registered nurse with over twenty years of experience.

With a gentle approach to treatment, Karen uses more indirect methods, including cranial osteopathy, soft tissue & muscle energy techniques and balanced ligamentous tension. She enjoys treating across the spectrum from pregnant Mums & newborns to the elderly.

Initially drawn to study osteopathy because of the amazing results she had seen with herself and family members. The osteopathic model of setting up the body to heal itself appealed and lured her into the osteopathic realm.

Karen is available on Wednesdays, Fridays & Saturdays.

Amelia Rocco, DO

Amelia has always had a passion for health and holistic approaches to healing. Drawn to Osteopathy after high school, Amelia studied her Bachelor of Applied Science in Complementary Medicine (Osteopathy) at RMIT in Melbourne and then continued on with her Masters of Osteopathic Medicine at SCU in Lismore. She has been practicing Osteopathy since 2012 and worked as a sports trainer for football clubs for 4 years whilst completing her Osteopathic studies.

Working as part of a team in well established practices with experienced Osteopaths in the Sunshine Coast, Brunswick Heads, Coffs Harbour and Busselton have advanced Amelia’s skill set to help meet an individuals needs.

Her treatment approach is tailored to the individual and she has an interest in treating children, women during pregnancy, the elderly, sinus and headache sufferers, sporting injuries and postural strains. Treatments include a variety of techniques including soft tissue therapy, myofascial techniques, dry needling, manipulation, osteopathy in the cranial field and balanced ligamentous tension technique. Treatments are enhanced with ergonomic and postural advice along with rehabilitation exercises.

She is passionate about surfing, yoga, meditation, travel, dancing and cooking for all her loved ones.

Amelia is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Emily Pepper, DO

Emily graduated from Victoria University in 2009 with a Bachelors Degree in Clinical Science, and a Masters Degree in Osteopathy. Before completing her studies, Emily had a strong interest in dance, which paved the way for extensive training in Clinical Pilates. Emily worked as an Osteopath and Pilates Instructor for 6 years in Melbourne, and moved up north in 2015 to where the sun shines more than once a week!

Emily has a structural hands-on approach to treatment, using a variety of techniques including soft tissue massage, articulation, manipulation and dry needling.

Emily enjoys treating patients of all ages, she especially has an interest in providing patients with rehabilitation and strengthening programs, in order to reduce the intensity and recurrence of injuries. Emily aims to treat every patient as an individual, tailoring specific individual treatment and management plans.

Emily is available on Saturdays.

Ashley Easton

Ash is a Remedial Massage Therapist and utilises assessment-based treatment to diagnose the source of the pain or injury to give the client the best possible outcomes. He uses a range of advanced muscle release techniques combined with stretching and strengthening exercises to bring the client’s body back into balance.

He also offers the remedial techniques of Sports Massage, Deep Tissue, Lymphatic Drainage, Myofascial Release, Neuromuscular and Trigger Point Therapy to rejuvenate and revive the body.

Ash recently completed an Advanced Diploma of Health Sciences and Soft Tissue Therapy. The course covers six areas, Myofascial Dry needling, Kinesio Taping, Anatomy fascial trains, Neurological assessment and treatment, ONSEN Muscle energy technique and Exercise rehabilitation. The course was delivered by Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, Exercise Physiologists, Neural Doctors and Soft Tissue therapists.

Dan Carroll

Dan has been practising remedial massage for 20 years, mostly in South Western Sydney and Wollongong. In that time he has gained a great deal of experience in using therapeutic massage to treat numerous patient complaints such as neck problems, headaches, back pain, sciatica, shoulder, hip and other joint issues. Dan has also studied many other bodywork modalities such as craniosacral therapy, positional release and myofascial release with the view to improving his skills and knowledge in treating the human body.

Dan has moved to the Northern Rivers to again further his education and is currently in his 3rd year of Osteopathic studies at Southern Cross University in Lismore. He is in a unique position to bring some of the osteopathic knowledge and skill he has learned into his massage therapy which greatly enhances the effectiveness of his treatments. Dan addresses each patient as an individual and works to achieve the best possible therapeutic result whether it is pain relief, increased ease of movement or a reduction in stress and tension.

Dan is available for appointments at Brunswick Heads Osteopathy on Saturday mornings from 10am till 2:30pm.
